YOUTH and students under the banner of YOUTH ACT NOW, the broadest anti-pork barrel youth alliance in the country, called on the Filipino people to “sustain the momentum” against the pork barrel system and held a decentralized noise barrage set on Friday, August 30.

With recent developments regarding the surrender of Janet Napoles, Youth Act Now maintained the need to continue the fight against pork and corruption under Aquino calling for Filipinos not to be fooled by the calculated move of the administration.

Recedes explained that “Napoles’ surrender seems like a well scripted plot, straight from the spin doctors of Malacanang. She went straight to Aquino, the number one defender of the pork barrel system including his own riches. Are we supposed to forget about his P1 trillion and the other politicians allied with the administration who are also big players in this ongoing plunder?”

“Every statement coming from the mouth of Aquino these past few days have been lies to cover up the fundamental fact that he has been cradling corrupt politicians and players, himself included, and Napoles’ case is no different. The administration is responding to the massive outrage with more deception, we need to take greater action for this to stop altogether,” said Recedes.

“Last Monday, the Filipino people have shown their overflowing rage against the pork barrel system that remains – albeit in a more hideous and deceptive form – in our national budget for 2014.YOUTH ACT NOW thus issues a call to our countrymen to sustain the momentum of dissent and gather this Friday to make some noise,” said YOUTH ACT NOW National Convenor Einstein Recedes before the protest.

The said group along with various schools and other youth groups held their demonstrations at 12:00 noon and 4:00 pm to “continuously clamor for the genuine abolition of the pork barrel system.”

“We’ve set the time to coincide with lunch break and the end of afternoon class hours to maximize the participation of a broad range of Filipino citizens – from students to office employees. Everyone’s invited to join the noise barrage, just bring something to make noise with – a whistle, a trumpet, drums, anything. Together, let’s once again clamor for the abolition of the pork barrel system.”

The YOUTH ACT NOW noise barrage spread to different assembly points, with respective campuses and institutions of the area joining:

§  United Church of Manila (UCM), CM Recto Avenue, Manila (in front of University of the East Recto)

§  Pedro Gil corner Taft Avenue

§  Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City (around the area between Miriam College and Ateneo de Manila University)

§  University of the Philippines, AS Steps

§  Taft corner Vito Cruz

§  Intramuros

Simultaneous noise barrages were conducted in the provinces of Cebu, Davao, Bacolod, and Pangasinan, among others.

“With President Benigno not keen on truly scrapping the pork barrel system, including his very own pork amounting to over P1 trillion, the youth and the people should not stop fighting. Monday’s protest was only the beginning. Let’s show the government that we’re serious and determined to continue the fight. Let us sustain our collective action,” Recedes said.
