PINAGPIYANSA ng Sandiganbayan First Division si dating Commission on Audit (CoA) chairman Reynaldo Villar ng halagang P1.2 milyon para sa pansamantalang paglaya nito.
Ang resolusyon ay isinulat ni Associate Justice Efren De La Cruz kaugnay sa P366 milyong plunder case kasama ni dating pangulo at ngayon ay Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo sa pagsasaabing si Villar ay hindi flight risk.
“The Court is not convinced that accused Villar is a flight risk, considering his long untarnished government service prior to the filing of this case, his advance age (being 72 years old), his stature as a former COA chair and his still being a member of the Bar,” sinabi sa desisyon ng Sandiganbayan.
Sa pagrerepaso umano ng Sandiganbayan sa record ng kaso ay nagsasabing hindi ito sapat para mapagtibay ang pagkakasangkot ni Villar.
“While the prosecution correctly posited that direct proof is not essential to establish conspiracy, it failed to point to any of its evidence that will establish any conspiratorial act on the part of accused Villar in the questioned transactions. Thus, the Court is of the view and so holds that the evidence adduced by the prosecution against accused Villar is not strong which will justify the continuous deprivation of his liberty by denying him his right to bail,” ayon pa rin sa desisyon.
Nauna rito, si Villar na naaresto sa Paranaque City matapos ang halos dalawang taon na pagtatago ay nag-plead ng not guilty kaugnay sa pagkakadawit niya sa umano’y paglustay sa intelligence funds ng Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).
